The exhibition “Beginnings” presents the conceptual designs of students from TalTech, Oslo AHO and ETH Zurich for the establishment of the Louis Kahn Center in Saaremaa. The curator of the exhibition is Marc Fischer (ETH Zurich).
On September 12, an international conference of the same name took place in Kuressaare Town Hall, organized by the Louis Kahn Estonian Foundation.
The event summarized the results of the international cooperation project “Estonian – Norwegian Cooperation Towards a Sustainable Architectural Education and Diverse Creative Output” that took place in 2022-2025, which was funded by the Norwegian EEA funds through RTK.
During the event, the book “Louis I. Kahn. Nordic Latitudes” by Per Olaf Fjeld and Emily Randall Fjeld, translated into Estonian, was also presented.
The presentations addressed building culture, the role of creative centers, the meaning of light and material in architecture, and the connections between Louis Kahn’s legacy and Saaremaa. The conference concluded with a panel discussion “How to make the Louis Kahn Center a reality?”
